INTERNATIONAL ADVERTISEMENT FOR POSITIONS IN PLANT BREEDING, FARMING SYSTEMS AND POMOLOGY

The University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s first and leading university, located in southwest Nigeria and with a student population of 20,000, about 40% of which is made up of postgraduate students, seeks the services ofdynamic and experienced scientists to join her academic staff in the Department of Agronomy for exciting academic careers. Ibadan has a tropical climate and rich ethnic diversity that includes foreigners from different parts of the world. The city of Ibadan is home to four national agricultural research institutes, two national agricultural agencies and an international institute for tropical agriculture –nearly all (are) within 10-15 km from the university. The Department of Agronomy, University of Ibadan runs Bachelor’s degree programmes in Crop and Soil Sciences, as well asM.Sc. and PhD programmes in various fields of Agronomy including plantbreeding. The University of Ibadan is the host of the Pan African University Life and Earth Sciences Institute (PAULESI) of the African Union. In addition to the regular plant breeding graduate students of the University of Ibadan, PAULESI will admit students for M.Sc. and PhD Programmes in plant breeding in September 2012.Appointees for the positions below, especially the plant breeding staff, will be expected to teach regular students of the University of Ibadan and those of the Pan African University.

The appointee will teach core plant breeding courses including quantitative genetics and statistics for agronomic experimentation, and develop a strongexternally funded breeding programme on one of the important tropical crops and another that is under-exploited.Read more....
