THE FACULTY OF SCIENCE, UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN
The Faculty of Science was one of the three Foundation faculties at the inception of the University of Ibadan, the then University College, Ibadan in 1948.
The other two are, the Faculties of Arts and Medicine.
The Faculty Started in a laboratory that were converted from the 56th Army General Hospital located in Eleyele, Ibadan and moved to its present permanent site in October, 1953.
It has, since then, undergone considerable development in terms of edifies, human resources, teaching and research.
The Foundation departments of the Faculty include Botany, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, and Zoology.
However, four additional departments emerged over the years and these are, Archaeology and Anthropology, Computer Science, Geology and Statistics, bringing the total number to ten.
In the course of time, the Botany department was renamed Botany and Microbiology, with options in Botany and Microbiology.

The 13th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Oyebode Adebowale was once a Dean of this Faculty.
