VISIT BY THE CLASS OF '67 TO THE VICE-CHANCELLOR, PROFESSOR ABEL IDOWU OLAYINKA IN HIS LODGE ON SUNDAY, 26 AUGUST, 2018
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, FAS, on Sunday, 26 August 2018 hosted the Class of ‘67 to a get-together party at his official residence in the University.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof A.I. Olayinka, in his speech, said Class of ’67 is the most feasible set among others. He reminded the gathering that in the year 2017, the set celebrated its 50th anniversary and built an image “Burst of Knowledge” at the UI Gate. He commended them for their supportive roles in various aspects and encouraged them not to relent.
In his responses to their requests and advice, the Vice-Chancellor informed them of efforts made over the past years in issuing scholarships to students who deserve it basically determined by their academic performance. He mentioned some of these which included the scholarship to the best three Post-UTME applicants for their undergraduate in the University of Ibadan and automatic scholarship to First Class graduates who are willing to pursue their postgraduate degree at the masters level in UI. He also informed them that organisations like Etisalat, Chevron among others also give scholarships to UI students. He, however, promised that the University Management will continue to enhance scholarship opportunities to students.
In his speech, Prof Oladele Osibanjo, who is the President of Class ’67 first appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for the kind gesture extended to the class and congratulated him for assuming the enviable position of the Vice-Chancellor and a peculiar one at that when the Premier University turned 70 calling him the ‘PLATINUM VC’ of the University of Ibadan.
The visiting Class of 67 advised the University management on the need to review the curriculum to reflect the current developmental and technological trend, improving the communication skills of students, an introduction of entrepreneurship to make students independent, resuscitation of consultancy unit and the introduction of new undergraduate courses.
Other members of Class ‘67 included Chief Bayo Oyero, Chief Wole Akinwande, Mrs. ‘Ranti Onikan, Mrs Funmilola Oyekan, Prof (Mrs.) Yombo Bolarinwa, Mr Biodun Onibonoje, Mrs Adeola G. Ayoola, Mrs Titilola Famubode, Mrs Adejoke Scott-Emuakpor, Elder S.O. Olagbenro, Mr Jibola Dedenuola, Dr Elizabeth Mosun Oladunni and Dr Kayode Lasaki.
Present at the occasion were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof K.O. Adebowale; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof A.A. Aderinto; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships), Prof. Olanike K. Adeyemo; Registrar, Mrs Olubunmi Faluyi; Deputy Dean, Student Affairs, Prof I.O. Abiona; Director, University Advancement Centre, Mr A.A. Adeosun and the Director, Public Communication, Mr O.M. Oladejo.
