UI APPRECIATES STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS AND COLLABORATIONS

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships, of the University of Ibadan, Professor Oluyemisi A. Bamgbose, SAN, has stated that
the University of Ibadan appreciates strategic partnerships and collaborations that are helping in promoting the efficiency and effectiveness of infrastructure development within the institution.

She made the statement on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, at the opening of a Public-Private-Partnership Hostel built by Chief (Mrs) Taofeekat Babayemi,
The Otun Iyalode of Egbaland,
for students of the University.

Professor Bamgbose stated that one of the challenges affecting many students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria is insufficient hostel accommodation, saying
that this has adverse effects on students psychologically and in their academic pursuits.

The DVC said in response to these challenges, the federal government had initiated policies encouraging a robust private sector involvement in infrastructure projects including hostels due to budget constraints and public finance difficulties in meeting the evolving needs of tertiary institutions.

She, therefore, commended Chief (Mrs) Taofeekat Babayemi for her generosity and contributions to the overall well-being of many Nigerians.

Professor Bamgbose affirmed that the new hostel will significantly enhance the living conditions and educational experience for students living on campus, reduce overcrowding, and curtail the myriad of challenges faced by students living off campus due to shortage of accommodation.

"This supportive initiative will enable the University of Ibadan to redirect her resources to learning and research as it will alleviate the burden of managing municipal functions," the DVC stated.

The Otun Iyalode of Egba land , CEO of Palm 77 Hotels, and the brain behind the hostel and hub, Chief (Mrs) Taofeekat Babayemi said she was proud to make the vision a reality.

She affirmed that the hub is more than just a building, saying that it is a symbol of her commitment to providing a conducive environment for learning, growth, and development.

She appreciated the University Management for the partnership, adding that the decision would help to promote the well-being of the students given that the Iyalode Taofeekat Hub is not just a hostel but a hub for innovation, creativity and excellence.

The Alake of Egba Land Oba Sikirulai Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, an alumnus of UI and the Royal Father at the ceremony, commended the University management for maintaining the University campus and bringing about positive changes.

He prayed for continuous growth and development of the University of Ibadan and more success for the donor.

The hostel hub consists of hostel accommodation, bakery, and restaurant. It is situated along Barth Road behind Idia Hall of residence.
