WE ARE COMMITTED TO STUDENTS WELFARE – UI VC

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, has restated the University management’s commitment to sustaining a good living
condition for the students of the institution. Prof. Olayinka gave this assurance today at the official commissioning of some
laudable municipal facilities in the Ransome Kuti Hall of Residence.

Highlighting the projects which include the peace torch fountain, students’ wash area, porters’ lodge, new warden’s office, supervisor’s office and the renovation of
senior common room (SCR), the VC noted that “all these are done to improve the living condition of the residents.”
Prof. Olayinka further noted that “the good relationship between the hall management, the students’ executive council and the alumni has started yielding
positive result.”

According to the VC: “the Chief Executive Officer of the Air-Peace, Barrister Allen Onyema who happens to be an alumnus of Kuti Hall visited the Hall and
provided financial support, part of which was utilised to establish Peace-Torch Fountain, students wash area, 65 inches Hi-sense television, 3.5KVA generator and
upgrading of students’ secretariat, among others.”

He added that Barrister Onyema has shown the same commitment to the University by donating a bus to the Faculty of Law where he was trained and
converted the Bola Ige Building at the Alumni Centre to a two-storey building, calling for more support from the alumni.

Prof. Olayinka profusely thanked Barrister Onyema who joined the event via zoom for his support.

The VC noted that the Hall, which was established in 1954 now houses about 518 students every session and commended the effort of the “past and present hall
management for ensuring adequate and proper maintenance of the hall and its vicinity which is visible for all to see.” Corroborating the comments of the VC on the hall, both the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Kayode Adebowale and the Dean of Students, Prof. Keye Abiona commended the hall management for the neatness of the hall with net effect on the conducive learning environment for the students, urging them to keep up the good work.

the residents of the hall.”
