OYO GOVERNOR-ELECT SEYI MAKINDE DONATES 25 MILLION NAIRA TO UI FOR RAIN DAMAGES
The Oyo State Governor-elect, Engineer Seyi Makinde gave a cheque donation of 25 million (twenty-five million) naira to the University of Ibadan, on Friday, 15 March 2019 as his own contribution towards the repair of structures damaged by the recent rainfall that came with thunderstorms. The cheque was handed over to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka during a courtesy visit to the University by the governor-elect.
According to the Governor-elect, apart from the donation, the visit was to thank the entire University community for the overwhelming support enjoyed by his party and also the effort of all participants in the election process for their forthrightness in ensuring that the people’s will was not subverted.
He expressed delight at the popular acceptability of his candidature which culminated in his victory in all the polling units within the University community. He pledged not to disappoint anyone as he looked forward to assuming office. He also expressed his desire to reach out to some specific units of the University for Collaboration in critical areas of development.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka, FAS, expressed his profound appreciation to the kind gesture of the Governor-elect and prompt response to the challenges on the campus at a time when it was least expected. He was optimistic that the existing relationship enjoyed by the University with its immediate environment will be sustained by the administration of the Governor-elect. He informed his visitor of different areas of intervention of the University to the development of the educational sector in the state. The Vice-Chancellor gave the percentage of the Oyo state indigenes at the undergraduate level as 31% while at the postgraduate level was above 20%. The Vice-Chancellor wished the Governor-elect God’s guidance and successful tenure as the next governor of Oyo State.
Among the entourage of the Governor-elect were Chief Omokunmi Mustapha, State Party Chairman (PDP); Hon. Adejumobi S. Ademola, Director of Protocol; Alhaji Hakeem Oladeji, Deputy Director of Protocol and Senator Hosea Ayoola Agboola, Former Senate Chief Whip, Oyo North Itesiwaju and Prince Dotun Oyelade.
Others in attendance were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof K.O. Adebowale; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof A.B. Ekanola; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships), Prof Olanike Adeyemo; Registrar, Mrs Olubunmi Faluyi; Bursar, Dr M.A. Alatise; Director, University Advancement Center, Mr A. Adeosun; Deputy Registrar, Vice Chancellor’s Office, Mr O.O. Dada and the Director, Directorate of Public Communication, Mr O.M. Oladejo.
