The University of Ibadan has taken yet another giant step by the
recent inauguration of its Servicom unit and the launch of service
charter. The inauguration was done by the Senior Special Assistant to
the President (SSAP) and National Coordinator, Servicom office, Abuja,
Mr Sylbriks Obriki.
In his address at the inauguration, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor
Isaac Adewole described the Service Compact (Servicom) as a social
contract between the Federal Government of Nigeria and all Nigerians.
Stressing the need to embrace and incorporate Servicom Unit into the University
system, the VC stated that “this is the perfect time for Servicom to
mark its entry into the premier University bearing in mind the
commitment of the present administration to service delivery. We have
as our vision at the University of Ibadan, to be a world class
institution for academic excellence geared towards meeting societal
needs.”
He noted that the inauguration of Servicom Unit will no doubt
accelerate the realization of this vision.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President and National
Coordinator, Servicom office, the Presidency, Mr. Sylbriks G. Obriki
who delivered his keynote address on ‘’The Role of SERVICOM Units in
Service Delivery in the University System’’ pointed out that it is the
primary business of everyone to enhance quality service delivery.
He submitted that Universities have a great role to play in this
capacity. According to him “Universities are the architect of
nation’s prosperity given the fact that it is the reservoir of
intellectuals that can conduct research aimed at bringing about
advancement of the country.
Mr. Obriki emphasized that the role of SERVICOM Units is not to sanction but to
fine-tune things in the right direction. “Complaints should be allowed
by the management of the institution in order to drive the University
forward”, said Mr. Obriki.
Speaking through Miss. Maureen Abbey, Mr. John Mairafi Ahmadu, the
Nodal Officer, National Universities Commission (NUC), in his goodwill
message commended the University for taking the appropriate step
towards ensuring effective and efficient service delivery. He
appreciated the efforts of the Vice-Chancellor and the University
Management to enhance service delivery.
The highpoint of the inauguration was the symbolic decoration of the
Vice Chancellor and Professor Oluwatoyin Odeku as the Focal Officer
for the University .
