UI VC commissions electrical and electronic engineering laboratory building

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, today, Monday, 27 July 2020 was at the Faculty of Technology where he officially commissioned the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Laboratory Building, a facility that was conceived in 2009.

The project was funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TetFund) 2011-2014 (Merged) Normal Intervention and the institution’s internally generated revenue (IGR) totalling N120 million naira.

In his speech, the VC, who was elated at the successful completion of the project thanked all those who were involved in making the project a reality.

He tasked the department to put the facility into good use, commending the department for turning out quality graduates when the facility was not in place.

Professor Olayinka also called on them “to double their efforts in producing more excellent graduates that will compete favourably not only in Nigeria but globally.”

Earlier in his address, the Dean, Faculty of Technology, Prof. Olaosebikan Fakolujo expressed his delight at seeing the completion of the building and appreciated God for sparing the lives of everyone, despite the various challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.

While appreciating the kind gesture of the VC in approving some amount of money to furnish the laboratories, the Dean solicited for more supports in complementing the efforts of the Department to obtain modern equipment for judicious use of the laboratory.

The Desk Officer, TetFund, and member of Council of the University, Mr. Taiwo Semowo appreciated the tacit commitment of the successive institution’s administrations to the project.

He thanked the University management for the opportunity given to him to serve in this capacity as he was able to effectively supervise the project.

“We must appreciate Prof. Ayodele Falase, Prof. Olufemi Bamiro, Prof. Isaac Adewole and Prof. Idowu Olayinka for the completion of this important edifice”, he said.

The building comprises four big laboratories of about 85square meters each, in floor area, which meets international standard. Also, there are two seminar rooms, one conference room and administrative offices.

Both Prof. Adeboye Olatunbosun, a retired staff of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Prof. Ayodeji Oluleye, former Dean of the Faculty of Technology, in their goodwill messages noted that the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering experienced challenges in the beginning, but thanked God that “the eagle has finally landed.”

Present at the occasion were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Kayode Adebowale; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Adebola Ekanola; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships), Prof. Olanike Adeyemo; Bursar, Dr. Micheal Alatise; Prof. Ademola Aremu, member of the University Council; Former Deans of Faculty of Technology, Prof. Ayodeji Oluleye and Prof. Emmanuel Ajav; Director of Special Duties, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Temitope Ewemoje; Director, Works and Maintenance, Engr.
