CPEEL MULTIDISCIPLINARY INNOVATIVE ENERGY PROJECT COMPETITION

The Centre for petroleum, Energy Economics and law (CPEEL), University of Ibadan, a john D and Catherine T. MacArthur Centre of Excellence in the training and Research in Energy is proud to announce its First Competition on Multidisciplinary Innovative Energy Project.

The key objective of the competition is to develop the ability of the University of Ibadan students to identify important energy problems around them and to provide innovative, practical, economically viable and sustainable solutions. The outcome of the process will be the development of practical projects that can be implemented, replicated and eventually commercialized. It will also help to develop a crop of confident and entrepreneurial students, with ability to translate knowledge into practical solutions to everyday energy challenges..

ELIGIBILITY

The competition is open to GROUPS of University of Ibadan Students that meet the following condition (i) multidisciplinary in composition, and (ii) composed of a minimum of 4 members, including at least one female. The duration for the project cycle is expected to last for nine (9) months. A Scientific Advisory Board made up of distinguished Professors with industry and policy experience will serve as the Panel of Judges

CRITERIA AND PRIZES

Each project will be judged on a set of criteria that include the following:

(1) Originality (2) Practicability (3) Sustainability (4) Economic Viability, and (5) positive socio-economic-environmental impact (s)

The winners of the competition will be announced at a public demonstration of their projects at the end of the 9 months cycle. The best three groups will win the following awards:

a) First Prize N500,000

b) Second Prize N250,000

c) Third Prize N150,000

Each of the finalists will also receive a Plaque and a Certificzte.

2. Prof. Akin Iwayemi – Retired Professor of Economics and Principal Investigator, CPEEL, University ofIbadan.

3. Prof. A.A. Adesomoju – Professor of Analytical Chemistry and current Head of Department of Chemistry, University of Ibadan.

4. Prof. R.A. Oderinde, FAS. Professor of Industrial Chemistry and current MacArthur Grant Liaison Officer (MGLO), University of Ibadan.

5. Prof. A. Adenikinju. Professor of Energy Economics and Director, CPEEL.

Interested applicants should collect the expression of interest form from CPEEL office at No 7 Parry Road, University of Ibadan on or before April 30, 2016. Completed forms should be returned to the same address.
