A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE FACULTY OF TECHNOLOGY AND THE ACTIVITIES FOR THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY
The Faculty of Technology, University of Ibadan became a full-fledged Faculty in 1975. However, it was established in 1971, by the Canadian International Development Agency, as an Institute of Applied Science and Technology, under the Faculty of Science. It started then with a Department of Petroleum Engineering in 1971 and by 1972 a second department called Agricultural and Forestry Engineering was added. In 1973 Department of Food Technology was added and by 1975 when it became a Faculty there were four programmes being run in it. Today it has grown to seven departments with eight programmes.
This year (2015), marks the 40th year of our existence as a Faculty and we, staff and students, of the Faculty, consider this as a milestone in our history. The activities to mark the Anniversary will commence with the Students Rallies and other students’ activities from Monday, 19 October, 2015 to Monday, 26 October, 2015. A week long Exhibition of projects by some staff and students of the Faculty will commence from Monday, 26 October, 2015. There will be an Award day to deserving people, who have contributed in one way or the other to the development of the Faculty on Wednesday, 28 October, 2015 and later on the same day a Public lecture will be delivered by a distinguished alumnus of the Faculty, Engr. Prince Yemisi Shyllon. The title of the lecture is “Culture as a Panacea for National Development”
