ACADEMIC STAFF POSITIONS
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following academic staff positions:
1. FACULTY OF ARTS
i. DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE ARTS
Assistant Lecturer/Junior Arts Fellow Area of Specialization
o Dance and Choreography
Applicants must possess Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Master of Arts (M.A.) Degrees in Theatre Arts with specialisation in Dance and Choreography. Evidence of registration for the Ph.D Degree programme is required. Demonstrable competence in any one or more of the following areas will be an added advantage: Costume & Makeup Design, Technical Theatre and Playwriting.
ii. DEPARTMENT OF LINGUISTICS AND AFRICAN LANGUAGES
Reader Area of Specialization
o Yoruba Literature
(Film Studies and Drama)
Applicants must possess Bachelor and Master Degrees in relevant fields and Ph.D in the area of specialisation listed. Applicants must have a minimum of nine (9) years teaching experience at university level and show evidence of academic leadership and scholarship through outstanding research and publications.
2. FACULTY OF SCIENCE, DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY
a. Senior Lecturer Area of Specialization
o Genetics
Applicants must possess Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Ph.D Degrees in Zoology with research interest in Genetics, particularly Mutagenicity and Genotoxicity. Applicants must also have a minimum of 6 years post Ph.D teaching experience at university level and must have published considerably in reputable journals.
b. Lecturer I/Lecturer II Area of Specialization
o Animal Physiology
Applicants must possess Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Ph.D Degrees in
Zoology/Biology/Animal Science/Physiology with research interest
in Animal Physiology.
For Lecturer I, applicants must have three (3) years post doctoral teaching experience and show evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals.
c. Assistant Lecturer Area of Specialization
Animal Physiology
Applicants must possess Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees in Zoology/Biology/Animal Science/Physiology with research interest in Animal Physiology. Applicants must show evidence of progress on the Ph.D Degree Programme. Evidence of publication in reputable journals will be an added advantage.
3. FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY
DEPARTMENT OF CROP PROTECTION AND ENVIRONMENTAL BIOLOGY
a. Lecturer II Area of Specialization
o Plant Pathology (Mycology/ Bacteriology)
Applicants must possess Bachelor and Master Degrees in relevant fields and Ph.D in Plant Pathology. Specialisation in Bacteriology or Mycology or both is required. Evidence of teaching or research experience at university or research institute level and publications in reputable journals will be added advantages.
b. Lecturer II Area of Specialization
o Crop Physiology
Applicants must possess Bachelor and Master Degrees in relevant fields and Ph.D in Crop Physiology. Evidence of teaching or research experience at university or research institute level and publications in reputable journals will be added advantages.
c. Assistant Lecturer Area of Specialization
o Animal Ecology
(Vertebrate Pest Management)
Applicants must possess a good first degree in a relevant field and Master of Science Degree in Zoology or a related field, with specialisation in Ecology. Evidence of registration for the Ph.D Degree programme is required. Demonstrable competence in crop protection and field ecology techniques to teach and conduct research in Vertebrate Pest Management and evidence of publications in reputable journals will be added advantages.
4. FACULTY OF THE SOCIAL SCIENCES
DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY
Lecturer I/II Area of Specialization
o Climatology/Hydrology/Water Resources/Cartography
Applicants must possess Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. Degrees in relevant fields of Geography.
For Lecturer I, applicants must have three (3) years post doctoral teaching experience and show evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals.
5. FACULTY OF EDUCATION
i. DEPARTMENT OF TEACHER EDUCATION
Lecturer II/Assistant Lecturer Area of Specialization
o Educational Foundations
Philosophical Foundation Education
For Assistant Lecturer, applicants must possess Bachelor and Master Degrees in related disciplines with bias for Philosophy of Education.
For Lecturer II, applicants must possess Bachelor, Master (in related disciplines) and Ph.D Degrees in Philosophy of Education.
Evidence of teaching or research experience at university level and scholarly publications in reputable journals will be added advantages. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrable ability to teach both philosophical and sociological foundations of education.
ii. ABADINA MEDIA RESOURCE CENTRE
Research Fellow I/II
For Research Fellow II, applicants must possess a good university degree in any of the fields of education, humanities or science, Master and Ph.D Degrees in School Media/Library and Information Science/Reading Development or other related disciplines. For Research Fellow I, a minimum of three (3) years post Ph.D teaching experience and evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals is also required. Experience in children/school libraries will be an added advantage.
6. FACULTY OF VETERINARY MEDICINE
DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY MICROBIOLOGY AND PARASITOLOGY
Lecturer II Area of Specialization
o Veterinary Microbiology
Applicants must possess a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Degree and a relevant Master Degree. Applicants must be registered with the Veterinary Council of Nigeria. Evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals will be an added advantage.
7. FACULTY OF TECHNOLOGY
DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
Lecturer I/II Area of Specialisation
o Solid Mechanics, Thermofluid or
Metallurgical/Material Processing
Applicants for the post of Lecturer II must possess Bachelor and Master Degrees in Mechanical Engineering with specialisation in any of the areas listed. Membership of reputable engineering professional organisation(s) and registration with COREN will be added advantages. Applicants must have registered for the Ph.D Degree programme in Mechanical Engineering.
Applicants for the post of Lecturer I must possess Bachelor, Master and Ph.D Degrees in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in any of the areas listed. Membership of reputable engineering professional organisation(s) and registration with COREN is required, in addition to evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals.
METHOD OF APPLICATION
Applicants should request their Referees to send reports on them, under confidential cover, indicating the positions and department to which they have applied for, direct to the Deputy Registrar (Establishments) from whom further details may be obtained.
Applicants are required to indicate the position applied for and the department in their applications as well as on the envelopes containing the applications.
Only the applications of shortlisted candidates will be acknowledged.
Shortlisted applicants would be required to make a departmental seminar presentation in their area of interest before being shortlisted for the oral interview.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
The appointment, which is to commence as soon as possible, is for three years in the first instance. It may be extended for specific periods or confirmed to retiring age. Fringe benefits include a Pension Scheme or comparable arrangement as may be approved from time to time by the University Council, housing allowance at an approved rate or residential accommodation at an approved rate if University accommodation is available.
