“THE YOUNGER GENERATION SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED TO JOIN PROFESSIONAL BODIES EARLY,” SAYS UI REGISTRAR
The Registrar of the University of Ibadan, Mr Ganiyu O. Saliu, FNIM, FCIML, fspsp, JP, has said that the younger generation of workers in corporate organizations and students should be encouraged to join professional bodies as registered members early in their careers.
He made this statement while receiving a delegation of members of the Local Organising Committee of the Oluyole 2026 Zonal Management Summit, of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) (Chartered) during a courtesy visit to his office.
Mr Saliu disclosed that he owes his rise in his professional field to the significant contributions of the institute to his career, stating that he was privileged to have registered as a member earlier in his career.
He asserted that the NIM is not just an institution but a training platform which also offers professional connections, reiterating that early career officers and students who are on management programmes should be encouraged to register as members.
According to him, the Institute occupies a unique place in the professional ecosystem in Nigeria because its membership cuts across all spheres of human endeavours, noting that the principles of management are foundational to the success of every discipline and sector.
The Registrar restated that the administrative culture of the University of Ibadan is firmly rooted in the values of the institute and it is its passion for excellence that has enabled the university to sustain its legacy as the first and the best in Nigeria.
He appreciated the efforts of the leadership of the NIM and urged the institute to consider collaborations with relevant academic units in the University of Ibadan to further foreground its essence and spread its tentacles within the university.
Mr Saliu, who is a Fellow of the institute, assured the delegation of his goodwill and support towards the success of the Oluyole 2026 South-West Zonal Management Summit, expressing optimism that the Summit would be a platform to advance management through professional collaborations across the region.
Dr Ibijoke Oluremi Fasola, FNIM, Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee for the Oluyole 2026 Summit, who led the delegation, stated that the major objective of the visit was to strengthen institutional collaboration between the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) and the University of Ibadan, as well as seek the University’s support for the forthcoming regional management summit.
Given the institution’s vision to deepen professional engagement with students, she highlighted the Graduate Membership Scheme as a viable initiative to be explored, explaining that it will introduce young scholars to the discipline and ethics of professional management early in their careers.
