It is part of the Research Group Linkage Programme sponsored by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany between my research group (Biodiversity Conservation and Medicinal Plants Research of the Department of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria), Dr. Gueye and Dr. Paliwal of the Genetic Resources Centre at IITA (Ibadan, Nigeria) and that of Prof. Dr Dirk Albach (Biodiversity and Evolution of Plants), Institute of Biology and Environmental Science-IBU, Faculty of Mathematics and Science, Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg.

The workshop will bring together Yam Geneticists and Scientists from Nigeria, Germany, France and Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, to discuss new trends in Yam Genetics and train upcoming researchers on the principles of yam genetics. At this meeting, we hope to be able to define a way forward in future research on yam genetics.
