UI VC COMMENDS STUDENT UNION BODY FOR BEING WORTHY AMBASSADORS
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, has commended the student union body of the university for being worthy ambassadors.
He gave this commendation at the Manifesto Night of the Student Union towards the election of new members into the Student Union Executive Committee.
Professor Adebowale acknowledged that they have contributed to maintaining a rancor-free session and have eschewed every form of misconduct.
He noted that being a member of the student union executive committee offers an opportunity for students to be involved in the governance of the university, adding that it is where minds are developed and leadership skills are learnt.
However, the VC decried the situation whereby some contestants vyed for some positions unopposed and encouraged students to show more interest in contesting offices in subsequent elections.
He assured that the university management had developed a structure and platform for student involvement in governance. He, therefore, called on all and sundry to be involved directly and indirectly in purposeful unionism.
The Deputy Registrar of the Students Affairs Division and Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Mr. S.O. Oyewumi reaffirmed the university’s commitment to ensuring a seamless, free, and fair election and urged students to see their participation in the election exercise as a constitutional duty.
Mr. Oyewumi reminded them that the process was not merely about selecting leaders but “a demonstration of our collective commitment to integrity, fairness, and peace.”
He admonished the students to avoid every form of mischief, impersonation, or disruptive conduct at the elections, charging them to set a good example by making the electoral process transparent and credible.
The manifesto night afforded aspirants contesting the eight offices to take turns to deliver their manifestos and canvas for votes.
The eight positions contested and the eventual winners of the elections held on Saturday, 13 December 2025, were:
* Assistant General Secretary – Fidelia Eseile
