Attainment of International Accreditation and Award for Excellent Performance

The Clinical and Research Laboratory in the Department of Virology, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan has been certified ISO 15189 (2012 version) Medical testing laboratory quality standards. The accreditation was based on recommendation by the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) Assessors and approved by the Advisory Committee of the board. The support for this feat was provided by the APIN Public Health Initiative, CDC (USA) Abuja office and the FMoH through the HIV treatment and care grant to the University of Ibadan.

Consequent upon the ISO 15189 certification, the Department was recognized for its excellent achievement during the African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) conference in Abuja, Nigeria on the 13 of December 2018. This is the first time that any laboratory in this University attained this status.
