The University of Ibadan has been allocated an amount of
118, 811,260 by the Education Trust Fund (ETF) for teaching staff training and development, with emphasis on the Sciences. The broad objective of this initiative is to break the unhealthy culture of in-breeding of academic staff N
by exposing them to other intellectual traditions within and outside Nigeria.
Applications are hereby invited from qualified academic staff for any of the following categories of training grants.
- Grants for sponsorship
in Nigeria or abroad, and
- Overseas training grants for teaching staff currently pursuing doctoral programmes in Nigerian universities.
Eligibility and Application Procedure
- Grants for sponsorship
in Nigeria or abroad
The objective of grants for sponsorship in (a) is to provide funding for academic staff to undergo postgraduate training leading to the award of master's or doctorate degrees in Nigeria or abroad.
Sponsorship for master's programmes will be for a maximum of 1 year while doctoral candidates will receive sponsorship for a maximum of 3 years.
- Overseas training grants
for teaching staff currently pursuing doctoral
programmes in Nigerian universities.
The objective of overseas training grants in (b) is to provide academic staff pursuing doctoral degree programmes in Nigerian universities, the opportunity to travel overseas for about three to six months, but not exceeding
one year, as non-tuition scholars. The grant is to enable awardees use equipment that are crucial to their doctoral research activities but are unavailable within Nigeria.
An application should be made in four hardcopies and an electronic copy in Microsoft Word, and must include the following.
- A covering application letter.
- A proposal not exceeding three
pages in 12-point Microsoft Word on A4 paper. The proposal should include a 150-word abstract, a short statement of problem, schedule of activities with time-line, methodology, expected outcomes, duration of the support sought, a line-item budget, proposed location of study/training, and benefits accruable to the individual and the institution.
- Applicant's curriculum vitae in University format (including e-mail and mobile telephone number).
- A letter of support from the
applicant's Head of Department.
- A copy of the letter of admission to the Master's or PhD programme.
These awards are for 2009 and 2010.
- For the 2009 awards, applicants with admission/PhD conversion letters predating 2008 need not apply.
- For the 2010 awards, applicants
with admission/PhD conversion letters predating 2009 need not apply.
Beneficiaries of these grants ((a) & (b)) will be bonded.
