TERTIARY EDUCATION TRUST FUND ACADEMIC STAFF TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT GRANT

CALL FOR APPLICATION 

The University of Ibadan has a cumulated amount of N136 million allocated to it by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (tetfund) for academic staff training and development (AST&D). The broad objective of this initiative is to break the unhealthy culture of in-breeding of academic staff by exposing them to other intellectual traditions within and outside Nigeria.

The University hereby invites applications from qualified academic staff for any of the following categories of training grants:

(a)     Grant for sponsorship in Nigeria or Abroad, and

(b)     Overseas training grants for academic staff currently pursuing doctoral programmes in Nigerian universities.

Objectives, Eligibility and Application Procedures

(c)     Grants for sponsorship in Nigeria or Abroad

The objectives of grant for sponsorship in (a) is to provide sponsorship for academic staff to undergo postgraduate training leading to the award of masters or doctorate degrees in Nigeria or abroad. Sponsorship for masters’ programmes will be for a maximum of 1 year while doctoral candidates will receive sponsorship for a maximum of 3 years. Beneficiaries of these grants will be bonded.

 

An application should consist of four hardcopies and an electronic copy in Microsoft Word, and must include the following:

(i)                   A covering application letter.

(ii)                 A letter of admission.

(iii)                A short proposal (maximum of 10 pages) in 12-point Microsoft Word on A4 paper. The proposal should include a short statement of problem, plan of study/training, methodology, expected outcomes, duration of the support sought, a line-item budget, and proposed location of study/training.

(iv)               Applicant’s curriculum vitae in University format (including e-mail and mobile telephone number).

(v)                 A letter of support from the applicant’s Head of Department.

(vi)               A completed bond form.

 

(d)     Overseas Training Grants

The objective of overseas training grants in (b) is to furnish academic staff, who are pursuing doctoral degree programmes in Nigerian universities, with the opportunity to travel overseas for about three to six months, but not exceeding one year, as non-tuition scholars, to use equipment that are crucial to their research activities but are unavailable within Nigeria. Applicants must be academic staff who are currently pursuing doctoral programmes in Nigeria universities. Beneficiaries of these grants will be bonded.

(iv)               A letter from the Dean o the Postgraduate School confirming that the applicant is a bona fide PhD candidate.

(v)                 A letter from the applicant’s Head of Department describing the state of the applicant’s PhD programme.

(vi)               A completed bond form.

All documents should be submitted to the Academic Planning Unit on or before March 31 2012.
