THE CENTRE FOR SOCIAL ORIENTATION, UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN, IBADAN, NIGERIA

Introduction

Consequent upon the presentation of a proposal for the transformation of the University of Ibadan Anti-Cultism Campaign Committee to Centre for Social Orientation by the Vice-Chancellor to Senate at its meeting of Monday, 28 March, 2010 for approval, Senate unanimously approved the Centre for Social Orientation, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. The Vice-Chancellor, subsequently mandated the Chairman, Anti-Cultism Campaign Committee, Dr. Adams Onuka to take charge as the pioneer director and ensure successful take-off of the Centre, while efforts are being made to provide Office accommodation and other things that will enable the Centre function fully in due course, the temporary office is Room E109, Faculty and Institute of Education Complex.
Centre for Social Orientation is the coordinating centre for networks for good social behaviour on the campus of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. It is expected to be the coordinating centre for character moulding of all members of the community, the ombudsman of the University to promote cordial relationship between staff and students and among members of staff, in order to improve the tempo of discipline on campus and the concomitant reduction in disciplinary actions as well as violent cases so that the energy, time and funds being wasted on disciplinary cases can be channeled to profitable ventures, consequently, making our campus a haven of peace as well as a model of character worthiness in the Nigerian university system. As a Centre in the VC’s office, it will engender the greater involvement and cooperation of all and sundry in ensuring acceptable, but good social behaviour on the campus. The Centre will coordinate Social Orientation committees in all Faculties/Institutes/Centres (including DLC) made up of staff and students and non-academic units
